Need an Application
Effective May 15, 2001, all applicants for LPC shall have a
Licensed Professional Counselor as a supervisor.

Legislative Rule,
Series 1 reads:
6.2.c.
The professional supervisor shall provide post-graduate degree supervision for
applicants provided he or she is a Licensed
Professional Counselor.

The professional supervisor shall
be permanently licensed for a period of two
(2) years and shall have five years counseling experience. This can be a Licensed
Professional Counselor in West Virginia or in any other state where the LPC
requirements are equal to or greater than the requirements in West Virginia.
If the
LPC or LPCC is out-of-state, the LPC will be required to attach a copy of
their current license to the full application. Five years of
counseling experience is any counseling experience, licensed or unlicensed, that
can be documented.

The professional
supervisor shall document to the Board that he or she has completed training in
clinical counseling supervision that includes content and experiences relevant
to the supervision of counselors.
The LPC with MORE THAN ten (10) years continuous
counseling experience that can be documented, shall submit to the Board
certificates of completion for 15 contact hours in clinical counseling supervision.
The clinical supervision training can be in the form of a
one-semester hour class (15 contact hours) from a graduate institution and/or
fifteen (15) contact
hours in continuing education from an approved provider. The LPC with
LESS THAN ten (10) years continuous counseling experience that can be documented, shall submit to the Board
certificates of completion for thirty (30) contact hours in clinical counseling supervision.
The clinical supervision training can be in the form of a
two-semester hour class (30 contact hours) from a graduate institution and/or
thirty (30) contact
hours in continuing education from an approved provider.
There is not a fee for applying
to become an Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor.
